Gabriela's one sentence summary of Dangerous Woman: "This album is like a snapshot of a 22-year-old girl becoming a woman by taking ownership of her sexuality, her emotions and herself."

On the Dangerous Woman cover look: "The title makes me think of that superhero - or supervillian, depending on the day - that every woman has inside of her. I wanted to visualize mine and put her on the cover. My own embodiment of a dangerous woman. So, for me, she's basically, like, Catwoman meets a Playboy bunny meets Lola Bunny from Space Jam. Remember her? Lola was this fierce as fuck, feminist anthropomorphic rabbit that kept her femininity while not taking shit from anyone."


Victoria Monet, Gabi's close friend and frequent co-writer, on the album: "She really wanted to take ownership of what she was singing with this record. Even the couple of songs on the record that she didn't write on, they're still ones that she picked because they said something to her or they said what she hadn't found the words for yet. "Leave Me Lonely" was one of those handpicked songs. Gabi even cried the first time she went in to lay it down because she really felt it, and there's no denying she and Macy [Gray] make the song exactly what it was meant to be with the way they deliver it."

On the rave reviews of her SNL episode: "When Lorne told me that Spielberg called him about it afterward, I teared up. That's nuts! Like, Hook will forever be my favorite take on the Peter Pan story and you can't even get me started on all the shows he's produced that I love. That was just... cool."


On speaking about feminism: "Why wouldn't I talk about it? Men and women need to stop being scared of that word. The whole excuse about the definition being skewed and preceived as man-hating is so tired. If I hear one more woman say that she's not a feminist because she loves men, I'm going to scream. A google search can fill you in real quick on how wrong you are with that bullshit. You can't be that dense in this day and age, and that's coming from me of all people. This isn't about taking men - white, cisgendered, heterosexual men in particular - "down". That's ridiculous. People really need to see the truth and know that this is about issues so much bigger than, like, women getting to pose suggestively for a photo without being slut shamed. Though, that is important too!"

On speculations about her love life: "Nobody knows a damn thing about it, that's just the long and short right there. Whether we're talking about the past, present or future, you do not know the full story and, honestly, I don't want to tell you because that's my business. All anyone needs to know, and all I'm gonna say, is that I'm in a great place. All aspects of my life are really good right now."


Republic Records chairman/CEO Monte Lipman on Gabi's "diva" reputation: "The D-word for Gabriela is 'do-it-yourself.' She takes on tremendous responsibility and she isn't afraid to challenge whomever. Some people are intimidated by that, but I encourage it. We've argued -- we'll raise our voices -- but that's creative conflict and that's where the sparks fly. It all starts and ends with Gabi."
